1. Please introduce yourself.
hi! im [tgum](https://tgum.net), ive made a few websites and uh yeah
2. How long have you been making websites?
i learned html and css and javascript around 6.5 years ago (late 2019 i think) but i only made single page games and experiments until early 2025 i think (when i started my personal website)
3. And what got you into the hobby?
My dad told me that javascript was a cool way to make programs other ppl can use so i started learning.
4. What kind of website are you most interested in?
hmmmmm. i guess i like personal sites a lot
5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?
i do have a vague idea of how i want it to look like i guess but i just experiiment a bunch with the css :)
6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.
idk ill add some later im a lil tired rn
7. What's your favourite part about making websites?
making something that looks pretty cool and being able to share it with others
8. And the thing you struggle with the most?
updating my website regularly and not over-engeneering complicated solutions
9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?
yeah i usually make one css file for the entire site. some pages might have small differences based on the content but not a lot. i do kwep my layouts pretty simple
10. How confident are you with CSS?
i can do stuff i guess. i dont know much about layout (like grid and flex) but i dont struggle too much with what i want to make
11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?
nope. i just learned what that is.
12. What is your favourite HTML element?
<p> is nice. rly basic answer but i dont know many elments
13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?
look through an old project for the nice meta tags im supposed to use
14. Do you know JavaScript?
yeah, its one of the main languages i use
15. How about PHP?
not at all
16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?
yuh
17. Are you more focused on content or design?
content i guess? more for the cybergarden lol, but usually i try to have a decwnt design at least
18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?
yup ! its so much nicer to share and stuff
19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?
really cool! even tho its for something i mostly didnt experience i like them
20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?
i hope so lolll. nope
21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?
buttons are rad. im not sure what bnners re in this context
22. What do you think of button walls in particular?
1 button = rad. 100 buttons = mega-rad. i have a small one on my homepage!
23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?
probably kind of different? remaking the same website would be boring
24. Are you envious of other people's websites?
not so much.
25. What text editor do you use?
helix on desktop and the koreader text editor on kindle
26. Why do you use that one?
helix is like vim but cooler (im going to get murdered for this lol). the koreader text efitor is in koreader
27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?
my web server. i really should compress them since my servers internet is quite slow
28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?
i dont really know what its about but i like nekoweb :) i ised to be on neocities but then i switched to nekoweb so i could have better scripts and now im on my own server
29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?
~10mb i think? most of that is images for a webpage i didnt finish i think
30. Do you keep local backups of your files?
yeah. everything is on my computer first and then uploaded to my server
31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?
i think visual ones are cool
32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?
for my main website i use a color palette from lospec (akc-12 iirc)
33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?
nope. its just a hobby i like doing :)
34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?
sadly not. i tried to get my friend o make a website but he hasnt updated it in ages
35. Do people in your real life know about your website?
yeah a few
36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?
my main website: nope. the cybeergarden: yeah, its just notes i can edit. very often = multiple times a week
37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?
no, its been moostly the same since the start. it would be fun to redesign but that takes a long time.
38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?
hobby i guess?

no

yeah it could be fun, althoug i have no idea how to use proffesional stuff like 11ty and wordpress. im unemployed loll

basically never
42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?
a few yeah
43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?
sadly i use discord.
44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?
i listen to music ALL the time. a lot of stuff, some electronic stuff like femtanyl, some stuff like car seat headrest
45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?
atm i have the main at https://tgum.net and the one you're on at https://cybergarden.tgum.net which is more of a wiki thing
46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?
many
47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?
yeah this is me ! maybe its a bit different? or maybe its more me idk

not yet
49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?
ya
50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?
heavy websites (my homepage isnt so great but like. the heaviest thing is a 200kb widget i think lol)
51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?

53. Do you consider different browsers?
no, i just hope web is standard enough lom
54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.
firefox, its really nice because you can install "sidebery" (tab organization add-on) and theme the browser with userChrome.css
55. And what OS are you on?
fedora linux :) im planning on switching to arch some time but im lazy
56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?
i think linux is a goated os cuz i have the power to do whatever i want !
57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?
i hope so ! i usually ask my friends if it works well for them
58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?
sad its blocked. well not really, it makes sense

webrings are RAD! atm im only in the bucketring and the no ai webring but id like to join more!

not yet. i dont think ive seen any?
61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?
i dont think so?
62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?
a website thats fairly fast to load, works on old browsers, has nice personality, looks cool and has useful/fun content. i try to do that but its hard to fulfill all of those

not really? it depends i guess. yeah all the assets are mine :)
64. What are your favourite resource sites?
mdn is cool, although getting annoying. wikipedia is great actually.
65. Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?
cant think of any
66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?
make it fun to update your website
67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?
most of it is css, but rarely i do put it in the element
68. What do you think of frameset layouts?
idk what that is really.
69. How about table-based layouts?
doesnt sound great for accessibility, and also annoying to do nowdays since flexbox and grid ecist.
70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?
idk? most of my layouts are pretty linear
71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?
100.04% the css. it takes a long tiɱe getting everything right. i wonder if theres a way to save the changes made from the devtools cuz i do a lot of tweaking in there and then copy into my editor
72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.
no.
73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?
hell nah. i like making layouts but at the same time its kind of annoying.

intermediate yeah
75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?
very rarely
76. How did YOU learn how to make websites?
the basics from khan academy, the rest from just searching what i want to do
77. Do you ever force elements to do things they're not supposed to?
not usually
78. Thoughts on floating elements?
super duper kewl. awesome way to layout stuff
79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?
em usually, px when i forget

sans-serif lol. i want to use more fonts but that sounds annoying cuz i need to make sure the license is ok and then load it on my website and its heavy

that would be fun. probably by copy pasting stuff into discord lol

yeah
83. Do you bookmark other people's websites? How would you feel knowing someone else bookmarked yours?
when i remember to, i find that the bookmark ux is prety bad, id like to just put the website in a folder and not havea pop up window with a really annoying folder picker.
84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?
how good i am at designing and all the cool stuff i put there

programming is one of my main hobbies :). no

i dont really have one, i just do what i like

90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?
both of my websites are made basically from scratch with my own ssgs. the one for the cybergarden is really basic (written in go), it just takes markdown and sticks it in a template. the tgum.net one is made in python and uses my own template engine with lua scripting
91. Do you keep a hitcounter? Why or why not?
no, i havent figured out how to implement analytics nicely yet

93. Do you write your page content directly into the editor, or do you prepare it elsewhere, like a text document or a Word document?
most of my posts are drafted on my kindle, then edited and published on my computer
94. Do you think you appear cool to others? A more accurate answer now: do other people ever say you're cool?
i hope so

yeah. i dont think so
96. Would you close down your website if you couldn't update it, or would you leave an archive?
definitely archive.

not that much. i try to stay pretty anonymous
98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?

99. And do you optimise the images on your website?
no. id like to but sounds complicated
