020-My server is dead

so ummmm. i lowkey broke my server earlier, and im about 1000km away from it... its not a massive deal but its really annoying. ill be home in around 2 weeks but in the meantime i wont have a website.

probably no one will read this until i fix my server lol

what happened?

i legitimately dont know. wallabag stopped working a few days ago so i sshed into it to check out what the problem was, saw that docker was down (but didnt check why) and just decided to restart the server... and now i cant connect to it at all :D

i know its not specific to docker since all my non docker services stopped working. my theory is that one of the storage devices died. either the microsd card or usb stick. not the most professional setup LMAO. i dont have any backups but i think worst thing i can lose is my docker compose. and wallabag archive but i dont rly care about that.

what am i gonna do

i might try to redirect my domain to a github pages site or something until i fix it. luckily i have all my website files on my computer so its easy to move.

i will continue writing on this blog in the meantime, even if its gonna be offline only for a while.

i think i can live without syncthing and wallabag for a bit.

it would be good to upgrade my server at some point, but idk raspberry pis dont use much electricity. i have a couple of old workstations from the 2000s but i think that they probably consume a bunch more electricity, for pretty similar specs to the rpi zero.

i might also drop docker at some point bcuz its nice being able to just install anything with 1 command, but it uses a bunch of storage space and feels kind of inefficient on such low powered hardware.
