a frog019-Museums are pretentious

written: 17th August 2026

I love art (see post 007), but I have beef with art museums and stuff. I'm not sure if I can explain my POV well (or if it even makes that much sense), but I'll try (maybe)

Earlier I was at a kinda big museum, and they had a modern art section with pieces of "anti art". I dont really know much about the mmovements of the time, but from my understanding around the early 20th century some ppl got fed up with how fancy and a rich ppl thing art was, so they kinda revolted by making revolting and stuff that looks like it was painted by a child and stuff i think? feel free to correct me in the comments. Anyways now those pieces are presented in a fancy house with some Rembrandts and stuff with all this respect and stuff i guess. I do like those paintings and the ideas, but it feels weird respecting in that way this thing that is MADE to not be respected and become fancy. Maybe picasso and stuff were kind of like that too idk.

Also I have beef with classical art. Maybe once again I'm a big idiot, but I'm not a big fan of really elaborate paintings that replicate reality perfectly. Like I do appreciate that theres a lot of skill involved and whatnot, but it just feels like an old rich people selfie to me. They dont look that interesting to me, kind of like AAA games (i feel like im digging a deeper and deeper grave but whatever, I'm not gonna stop to avoid sounding stupid) they look really realistic I guess, but they have no nice personality and charm.

im too tired to continue my points. i also had something about how museums have those massive rooms and stuff that feels pretentious. idk and i dont really care that much lmao. being in a museum doesnt make art good, it just makes it fancy. it could be interesting to have an installation where the point is to disrespect the art instead somehow. that would be fun.

anyway baiiiii!
